PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Indigenous Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Eastern at Purnia


Purnia, Bihar, October 2025: In a landmark step for India’s dairy and livestock sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Northeast India’s first indigenous bovine sex-sorted semen processing facility in Purnia district, Bihar.

The facility has been established under the National Gokul Mission (RGM) with the support of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). It deploys GauSort, an indigenous sex-sorting technology developed by NDDB in collaboration with premier scientific institutions, including IISc Bengaluru and IIT Madras. The project has been financially supported by the Government of India under RGM for scaling up and delivery to farmers.


🌱 Technology with a Purpose

The GauSort technology ensures an 85–90% probability of producing female calves, which will significantly contribute to:

  • Higher milk production
  • Enhanced farmer income
  • Reducedthe  economic burden of maintaining unproductive male calves

To maximise farmer benefits, the price of sex-sorted semen has been fixed at an affordable ₹250 per dose, making it accessible to small, marginal, and landless livestock farmers.
