Dairies Absorb Majority of Milk Supply

Dairies across the EU processed the bulk of raw milk produced, signalling balanced market conditions. Processing activity remained strong in key dairy-producing countries, supported by demand for cheese, butter and other value-added products. Higher utilisation of processing capacity has helped stabilise farmgate milk prices in several regions.

Product Mix Supports Stability

Cheese production remained the primary outlet for EU milk, followed by butter and milk powders. Demand from both domestic and export markets supported processing volumes, even as consumption patterns shifted toward higher-value dairy products. This diversified product mix helped dairies manage supply efficiently.

Farmers Face Ongoing Cost Pressures

While milk output increased slightly, producers continue to face elevated feed, energy and compliance costs. Environmental regulations and climate-related challenges also limited expansion in some member states. As a result, production growth remained cautious rather than aggressive.
