Dairy Expansion Anchors Siwan’s Rs 208 Crore Development Push
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has positioned the dairy sector as a key driver of rural employment and farmer income while unveiling 71 development projects worth Rs 208 crore in Siwan district. The announcement came during his Samriddhi Yatra, reflecting the state’s renewed focus on agriculture-linked livelihoods.
Of the total projects, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for 40 schemes valued at Rs 157 crore and inaugurated 31 completed projects worth Rs 45 crore. He launched the initiatives remotely from the upcoming Government Medical College campus at Mairwa.
Village-Level Dairy Infrastructure in Focus
During his Jan Samvad address at Rajendra Stadium, Nitish Kumar outlined a structured plan to strengthen dairying at the grassroots level. The state will form milk producers’ committees in all 1,528 villages of the Siwan district. In addition, Sudha milk outlets will be opened in all 299 panchayats.
These measures aim to expand organised milk procurement, improve market access for farmers, and generate steady rural employment. The initiative aligns with Bihar’s broader strategy of linking cooperative institutions with local economic development.
Integrated Development Approach
Alongside dairy, the Chief Minister announced major investments in healthcare and sports infrastructure. All 19 community health centres will be upgraded into speciality hospitals, while the district sadar hospital will become a superspecialty facility. The state will also establish a centre of excellence for sports in Siwan.
Moreover, the government continues to support women-led livelihoods. Under the Mahila Rojgar Yojana, Rs 10,000 has already been provided to 4.13 lakh women, with potential assistance rising to Rs 2 lakh per beneficiary based on enterprise performance.
Support for Farmer Enterprises and Allied Sectors
During the visit, the Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 9.90 lakh to a farmers’ producer organisation for setting up an oil processing unit. He also approved subsidies for a farm machinery bank and monthly incentives for Krishi Sakhis to promote organic farming.
By combining dairy expansion with infrastructure, health, and farmer enterprises, Bihar aims to create a more resilient rural economy anchored in agriculture-led growth.
