Mumbai Police Bust Milk Adulteration Racket; Four Arrested Over Counterfeit Amul Packets
Counterfeit Milk Network Exposed in Mumbai
Mumbai Crime Branch has busted an alleged milk adulteration racket involving the dilution of milk and its sale in counterfeit packets of reputed dairy brands, including Amul and Gokul. Four people have been arrested in connection with the operation.
Milk Diluted and Repacked
Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch Unit 12 raided premises in Dahisar East on July 9. Police allegedly found milk packets being opened, diluted with dirty water and resealed before being supplied to consumers.
Authorities seized around 470 litres of milk worth ₹29,750, along with equipment allegedly used for milk adulteration.
13,000 Counterfeit Amul Bags Seized
The investigation also uncovered a large-scale counterfeit packaging operation. Police seized approximately 13,000 empty counterfeit Amul milk bags, plastic material and machinery allegedly used to manufacture the fake packaging.
Four mobile phones worth around ₹10.79 lakh were also seized during the investigation.
Factory Raided in Vasai
Investigators traced the alleged source of the counterfeit packaging to a factory at Lakshmi Industrial Estate, Valiv Phata, Vasai East, Palghar. Police said the facility was allegedly manufacturing fake Amul milk bags for use by individuals involved in milk adulteration.
Machinery and counterfeit packaging seized from the factory were collectively valued at around ₹10 lakh.
Four Persons Arrested
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lingya Ganta (42), Saidul Jingli (33), Yadya Batulla (46) and Ramul Bodopalli (65).
According to police, the alleged main accused had been supplying counterfeit milk bags to people involved in milk adulteration across Mumbai and its suburbs since 2021.
Investigation Underway
The operation has helped police uncover an alleged network involving both the manufacture of counterfeit dairy packaging and the sale of adulterated milk. A case has been registered at Dahisar police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the wider network and the distribution of the adulterated milk.
