Strategic Partnership Strengthens Piracanjuba’s Dairy Expansion
The Piracanjuba Group and the Mixed Cooperative of Milk Producers of Morrinhos (Complem) have announced a strategic partnership that will see Piracanjuba take exclusive responsibility for operating Complem’s dairy unit in Goiás, Brazil.
The arrangement will be implemented through the leasing of industrial milk production assets along with the Compleite brand, a traditional Goiás dairy brand with more than four decades of history. The partnership is expected to strengthen Piracanjuba’s production capabilities while enabling Complem to concentrate its resources on its other businesses.
Under the agreement, Piracanjuba Group will exclusively operate the dairy unit. Complem, meanwhile, will continue its activities across grain operations, milk collection, animal nutrition, agricultural stores, supermarkets and other services offered to its cooperative members.
Piracanjuba Group President Luiz Claudio Lorenzo described the agreement as a strategic step in the company’s growth journey, highlighting the shared history and credibility of both organisations in Goiás.
Complem to Maintain Broader Cooperative Operations
For Complem, the partnership allows the cooperative to place greater emphasis on its non-dairy operations while continuing to create value for its members. Its diversified activities will remain operational, ensuring that the agreement does not affect the cooperative’s wider business structure.
The transaction is, however, subject to approval from Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). Until a final decision is reached, Piracanjuba and Complem will continue operating autonomously and independently.
The agreement therefore represents a strategic restructuring of dairy processing operations rather than an immediate consolidation of the two organisations.
Piracanjuba Continues Expanding Its National Footprint
The partnership comes as Piracanjuba accelerates its expansion across Brazil. The company recently inaugurated a new industrial facility in São Jorge D’Oeste, Paraná, further strengthening its position within Brazil’s dairy processing industry.
The new facility has been designed to process approximately 1.2 million litres of milk per day, providing a significant addition to the company’s processing capacity. During the initial stage, production will focus on butter and cheese.
Piracanjuba also plans to expand the facility’s product portfolio into higher-value dairy ingredients, including whey protein, lactose powder and cottage cheese. This strategy reflects growing opportunities in value-added dairy products and ingredients.
Focus on Dairy Ingredients and Import Substitution
The Paraná investment also has wider relevance for Brazil’s dairy ingredients market. The country currently relies significantly on imports for certain dairy ingredients, with approximately 54% of whey protein concentrate consumption and 67% of lactose consumption supplied through imports.
Expanding domestic production could therefore help strengthen Brazil’s dairy ingredient manufacturing capabilities while supporting greater diversification of Piracanjuba’s product portfolio.
The new Paraná facility is expected to create around 250 direct jobs in its initial phase. It has also been designed around operational efficiency and sustainability, incorporating measures such as water reuse and biogas utilisation.
Building a Broader Brazilian Dairy Platform
The Complem partnership and the new Paraná processing facility demonstrate Piracanjuba’s broader strategy of expanding its industrial presence and increasing processing capabilities across different regions of Brazil.
For Piracanjuba, operating the Complem dairy unit provides an opportunity to add established industrial assets and the long-standing Compleite brand to its operations. For Complem, the arrangement creates greater room to focus on its diversified cooperative activities and member services.
With regulatory approval still required, the next stage of the partnership will depend on CADE’s decision. If approved, the agreement will further strengthen Piracanjuba’s position in Brazil’s dairy processing sector while giving Complem a more focused operating structure.
