In a groundbreaking step for India’s livestock sector, Amul Dairy, Anand, has launched its first-ever scientifically formulated feed specifically for goats and sheep. This innovation is strategically aligned with the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying’s vision to strengthen small ruminant farming and uplift rural livelihoods.
The launch ceremony was attended by leading figures from the cooperative, including Shri Vipulbhai Patel (Chairman, Amul Dairy), Shri Kantibhai Sodhaparmar (Vice Chairman), Shri Sanjaybhai Patel (Board Member), and Dr. Amit Vyas (Managing Director), reflecting the initiative’s importance in Amul’s long-term strategy.
This specially engineered feed is designed to fill critical nutritional gaps in small ruminants, enhancing their health, productivity, and profitability for farmers.
“India’s small ruminant farmers play a crucial role in sustaining the rural economy. This feed is a game-changing solution to improve animal health, boost growth, and enhance milk, meat, and wool production.”
— Dr. Amit Vyas, Managing Director, Amul Dairy
Packaged in 25 kg bags, the feed contains 4 mm pellets and is fortified with 16% crude protein and 2.5% crude fat. The balanced formulation includes a rich mix of vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, and herbal ingredients, sourced from traditional and high-quality inputs like soya meal, maize, barley, wheat bran, rice bran, molasses, DDGS, and salt.
“Amul remains committed to driving farmer-centric innovations rooted in science, empowering livestock owners with affordable, effective, and sustainable solutions.”
— Shri Vipulbhai Patel, Chairman, Amul Dairy
A daily feeding recommendation of 250–300 grams per adult animal is expected to significantly boost growth rates, reproductive health, lactation, wool quality, and reduce mortality in kids and lambs—a critical challenge for India’s 80 million small ruminants.
This feed marks a first-of-its-kind initiative by Amul Dairy into the small ruminant segment and further strengthens the brand’s role in fostering inclusive rural prosperity, sustainable dairy farming, and animal welfare.
As the Indian dairy and livestock industries embrace modern practices, Amul’s entry into goat and sheep nutrition sets a new benchmark for innovation, cooperative leadership, and farmer empowerment.
