Sidel Delivers Britannia’s First Aseptic PET Line, Strengthening Winkin’ Cow Dairy Drinks Strategy

Global packaging solutions provider Sidel has delivered Britannia Industries Limited’s first-ever aseptic PET packaging line, marking a significant technological milestone in the company’s dairy beverages expansion under its Winkin’ Cow portfolio.

Britannia entered the value-added dairy drinks segment in 2018, positioning Winkin’ Cow as a growth platform in an increasingly competitive and brand-driven market. The decision to adopt aseptic PET technology reflects a strategic shift towards longer shelf life, improved food safety and wider distribution reach without reliance on cold-chain infrastructure.

Installed at Britannia’s greenfield dairy facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, the new aseptic PET line represents a fully integrated, end-to-end solution. Sidel supported the project from line design and technical planning through installation, commissioning and production ramp-up, ensuring speed to market and operational alignment.

At the core of the line is Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis solution, operating at 24,000 bottles per hour. The system integrates preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling and capping into a single enclosed process. This configuration significantly reduces the risk of contamination while enabling extended shelf life for sensitive dairy beverages.

From a sustainability perspective, the use of Predis™ dry preform decontamination technology is particularly relevant. By injecting hydrogen peroxide directly into the preform before heating, the process eliminates water usage and minimises chemical consumption. As a result, Britannia can achieve stringent food safety standards with a lower environmental footprint.

Operational flexibility also remains a key advantage. The line allows rapid switching between pack sizes ranging from 180 ml to 1 litre, supporting multiple SKUs while maintaining high efficiency and uptime. This flexibility is essential for dairy brands navigating evolving consumer preferences and portfolio diversification.

For Britannia, the partnership strengthens its ability to scale Winkin’ Cow nationally with safe, shelf-stable and competitively packaged dairy drinks. More broadly, the project highlights how aseptic PET technology is becoming central to India’s growth in value-added dairy beverages, combining food safety, sustainability and cost efficiency.
