Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called for stronger marketing strategies and enhanced quality standards for MilkFed dairy products. Chairing a review meeting of the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (MilkFed), he outlined plans for infrastructure expansion and operational improvement.
Sukhu announced the establishment of a new milk processing centre in either Karcham or Tapri in Kinnaur district to serve both residents and the Army. He also suggested exploring outsourcing options for the existing plants at Duttnagar in the Shimla district to boost efficiency and production capacity.
The Chief Minister further directed the preparation of a proposal for setting up a milk powder plant at MilkFed’s Mandi facility to strengthen product diversification and storage capacity.
MilkFed has achieved notable progress, recording its highest-ever increase in milk procurement this financial year. The federation installed 29 new bulk milk coolers and commissioned 222 automatic milk collection units over the past two years. Currently, 716 cooperative societies and over 40,000 farmers are linked with MilkFed, reflecting the growing strength of the state’s dairy cooperative network.
Sukhu emphasised that modernisation, marketing innovation, and strategic partnerships are essential to make MilkFed a competitive and self-sustaining dairy enterprise in the years ahead.
